2026 Spring Faculty Honorees

Here are the faculty members who made a lasting impact on our Spring 2026 graduating class, in the words of the students themselves:

Dave Westenberg
Dr. David Westenberg

"Dr. Westenberg is one of the few professors on campus whose name alumni consistently remember when they return to visit our department. That alone speaks to the lasting impression he leaves on his students. During my four years, he gave me every opportunity to grow into the successful student I hoped to become. Whether through the people he introduced me to, the events we participated in together, or the many hours spent in the lab, he has had a profound impact on my undergraduate career.

K Chandrashekhara
Dr. K Chandrashekhara
"Dr. Chandrashekhara was a positive role model because of the passion and dedication they brought to both teaching and research. His enthusiasm for mechanical engineering made the material more engaging and motivated me to approach problems with curiosity and persistence. I admired how He balanced technical expertise with patience and encouragement, creating an environment where students felt comfortable asking questions and pushing themselves to learn more."

Kelvin Erickson
Dr. Kelvin Erickson
"Dr. Erickson showed practical examples of how PLC Programming is to be operated and used in real world examples. He was kind and very clear as a professor about how he will be grading assignments. He showed plenty of examples on how to conduct yourself in a professional setting."

Julie Sermon
Dr. Julie Semon
"Dr. Semon is passionate about what she teaches and she consistently puts forth effort. It is clear that she enjoys learning as much as she enjoys teaching. She made finishing my degree more enjoyable and engaging and encouraged me to go above and beyond and to continue my work outside of the classroom. She pushed me to compete in a pitch competition and my team ended up making it to semi-finals. We will get to compete in Taiwan in April and it is because she pushed us to go above and beyond."

Kwame Awuah-Offei
Dr. Kwame Awuah-Offei
"Dr. Awuah-Offei recognizes your potential and ability to surmount the challenges in your research and urges you to overcome them. He emphasized that novelty does not also have to be Noble Prize Winning at the start but enough to make an impact in your field of research and he played a father figure role alongside being an advisor and knew where to draw the balance to keep me motivated and fired up for my research."

David Lipke
Dr. David Lipke
"Dr. Lipke has been one of the most influential role models in my academic career. As both my research advisor and professor, he has shown me what it looks like to be an excellent engineer while still being approachable and supportive. He holds high standards, but he also genuinely cares about his students and their growth. In research, he has pushed me to think more critically and independently, which has helped me gain confidence in my technical abilities. At the same time, he leads with patience and consistency, even during stressful times. Seeing how he balances professionalism, mentorship, and technical excellence has shaped how I hope to approach my own career in engineering."

Keith G. Tomazi
Dr. Keith Tomazi
"Dr. Tomazi spent lots of time truly educating his students. He is always on time, very respectful, and taught me what it means to be a real engineer. Going into design, his classes were informative, engaging, and a real blast to take. He always kept classes interesting and applicable. His industry stories, honest advice, and friendly demeanor encouraged me to do well in his class."

Dr. Dua
Dr. Rohit Dua
"Dr. Dua served as a positive role model by showing patience, encouragement, and a genuine passion for teaching the material. During some of the most challenging parts of my degree, he took the time to help me understand material and pushed me to believe in my abilities. His dedication to student success made a strong impact on me and helped shape the way I approach challenges in my academic and professional life."

Dr. Kent Robinson
"Dr. Robinson was very invested in his students and provided a very interactive classroom environment. He told me to make connections as well as a young adult to build a better future and gave me advice on how to be successful as a small business owner."

2026 Spring Staff Honorees

Here are the staff members who made a lasting impact on our Spring 2026 graduating class, in the words of the students themselves:

Shari Hill
Shari Hill
"I, and many of my peers, would say that Ms. Shari Hill is probably the single most important university faculty member in the careers of many Black students at the University. Her support and advocacy has single-handedly revived multiple organizations that work to service the Black community in many facets of campus life. she advised NSBE, the National Society of Black Engineers, an organization that helped me land not only the 3 internships I had through my college career but also the full-time job that I was able to secure post-grad. Her impact, both direct and indirect, is immeasurable there alone. But additionally, she advised my fraternity as it returned to the campus in 2022. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in which I was initiated in the Spring of 2023, has made an incredible impact on my life, and I can credit a lot of the development, strength, and academic performance to the support of that brotherhood and our campus advisor, Ms. Shari Hill."

Stephanie Fitch

"Steph exercised impressive patience when working with me during my math courses. Her friendliness and relatability are unparalleled. At S&T, my most difficult subject was math. Steph supported me through my ups and downs, and encouraged me to keep going. Her patience and ability to read students was impressive. She supported me and always found room for improvement in not only my work, but my attitude. This is above and beyond for me. She really was one of the best at S&T."

Kurt Pritchett
"Kurt was supportive and a very positive role model during my time at S&T. I learned how to be patient, strive for success, and prioritization from him. His laid back attitude and ability to be level headed will stick with me for the rest of my career. He always supported my goals, no matter how unusual. However, never stopped being real with me."
