Faculty Honorees

Here are the faculty members who made a lasting impact on our December 2024 graduating class, in the words of the students themselves:

Catherine JohnsonCatherine Johnson
"Many people consider her a tough professor or say that her classes are hard, but she is one of the only people I've met who truly cares about her students. She knows what we are capable of, and pushes us to be great, while showing us that it's still possible to enjoy work at the same time. It's a welcome quality in a role model, the ability to see that we have more to give, and to care about us so much that she wants only the best for us."

David Carpenter
"He always made me feel like he believed in me even when I doubted myself. Not many other professors have been more understanding of the hard work I put into my discipline. When I had times of failure, he always let me take a step back and retry things. He's very personable and cares about his job and students. Seeing the dedication he puts into teaching pushes me to do well in his courses and carry that kind of commitment into my professional career."

Joan SchumanJoan Schuman
"She is incredibly intelligent, kind, funny, and knowledgeable. She cares about you as a person, she sees you beyond your academic performance. She has taught multiple courses, been my academic advisor, as well as incredibly supportive as a person, woman, and teacher."

Katie ShannonKatie Shannon
"Dr. Shannon has been a positive role model for always having empathy, patience, and compassion both inside the classroom and outside of it. She has encouraged me to finish my degree by always giving the support necessary while in her class and instilling confidence in me and my abilities while pursuing my education."

Robert WoodleyRobert Woodley
"Gave good advice and helped me choose my direction."

John McManusJohn McManus
"Dr. McManus always demonstrates a positive classroom environment. He became a person to talk to about history, which was great for me. He modeled how to be a good teacher and a good person. Dr. McManus encouraged me to continue studying history, even when I didn't feel like it. His expectations for me helped me to increase the quality of my work, even outside his classes. I would always think about how Dr. McManus would grade me on an essay to see if it was good enough."

Yezad Anklesaria
Yezad Anklesaria

"Dr. Anklesaria has been a constant source of inspiration, demonstrating what it means to be a dedicated and passionate educator. His commitment to not only teaching but mentoring students is evident in how he takes time to provide feedback, guide research efforts, and share his expertise. His ability to challenge and support simultaneously has shaped my professional development, especially in aerospace structural analysis."

Heath_PickerillHeath Pickerill
"Dr. Pickerill is an incredibly personable, patient, and thorough professor. I had him for Architectural Design as a sophomore and now work with him as my IDT advisor as a senior. He has an admirable work ethic and attention to detail, all while still being kind and intentional with students."

Dev NiyogiDev Niyogi
"Professor Niyogi is my advisor and mentor. He helped not only in my academic career but also in every shape of life. Dr Niyogi is not only a great advisor, the greatest teacher but he is also a successful scholar and scientist. I want to be like him in the future. And finishing this degree will be my one step forward."

Jonathan KimballJonathan Kimball
"I remember when I was at my lowest in 2022 spring, I confided in Prof. Jonathan Kimball, and he said, I will make you successful. Every day since that moment, he always stood up for me, and made sure I had all the resources I needed. He made me successful."

Fateme Rezaei
"Dr. Rezaei provided unwavering guidance and support throughout my studies, offering constructive feedback and keen supervision. Her encouragement and belief in our abilities were crucial in helping me stay motivated and focused on completing my degree."

Staff Honorees

Here are the staff members who made a lasting impact on our December 2024 graduating class, in the words of the students themselves:

Debi WillyDebi Willy
"Debi Willy exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated and supportive staff member. Her commitment to ensuring students have the resources and support they need has been instrumental, especially for M-SAT. She goes above and beyond to make things happen, showing that with determination and a helpful attitude, any obstacle can be overcome."

Jody SeelyJody Seely
"Jody simply is the best and knows the department incredibly well. She likely saved me thousands of dollars just by advising my class and schedule in very strategic ways. She is also incredibly patient and kind and has to endure constant nagging from students (and probably other faculty). I will definitely miss having her as my adviser and wish I could keep her as my life coach."

Nancy WinterburgNancy Winterburg
"Nancy helped me in every walk of life. The matter can be very trivial, but she is always there to share her wisdom. Nancy remembers every detail if I need anything, if she doesn't know, she will search thoroughly to get that information."

Shawna HolleShawna Holle
"In the years leading to the spring of 2022, Shawna was constantly a voice of wisdom, guiding and directing my every thought and action. Always looking out for me and ensuring I did the best thing. At a time when I needed someone to talk to the most, Ms. Shawna was always willing to listen. That meant a lot to me."
